Spaceship Founder Warns Sellers to Keep Listings Current

A domain marketplace only works when a listed price is a real offer. Spaceship has now said sellers who fail to complete sales without a valid reason will lose trading privileges, and buyers face the same rule. Domain holders should treat this as a reminder that listings are commitments, not placeholders.

The trigger was a failed purchase. A buyer paid for a .si domain through Spaceship, and the seller later told the platform the domain was no longer available. Spaceship refunded the order. The sale did not close, but the buyer's time and the platform's process were spent.

Stale listings are the usual cause. A domain can be sold elsewhere, transferred out, or left with expired contact details while the listing stays visible. The seller may not intend to default; the listing simply no longer reflects what the seller can deliver. The effect on the buyer is the same.

Spaceship's response is to make non-performance costly. The founder's warning says sellers who do not follow through without a valid reason will no longer be allowed to trade on the platform. Extending the same rule to buyers addresses the other side of the failure: a deal can also collapse when the buyer does not pay.

For domain holders, the immediate action is an audit. Every listing should be checked against current ownership, transfer status, and contact details. Pricing should be checked too, because a price that no longer reflects the seller's intention is another form of stale listing.

What is not yet known is how the policy will be applied. The warning does not define what counts as a valid reason, how many defaults trigger a ban, or whether there is an appeal process. Sellers who rely on the platform should assume the policy will be enforced and keep records of any legitimate reason for canceling.

Marketplace integrity is a two-sided condition. Buyers need to trust that a listed domain can actually be delivered; sellers need to trust that a winning buyer will pay. A platform that enforces both sides makes its listings more reliable, which is ultimately what makes a domain marketplace useful.
