Organization gives up fight for Prosecco.com domain name
Prosecco's guardian body has stepped back from taking Prosecco.com, telling a court it will no longer seek transfer of the domain.
The Consorzio manages the DOC designation, but a designation of origin and a domain name are different assets. One is a controlled label; the other is a registered string in a global registry.
By renouncing the transfer claim, the consortium has conceded the central remedy it was fighting for. The current owner's hold on Prosecco.com is no longer the main question in the case.
For domain owners, this is the meaningful takeaway: holding a geographic .com does not automatically collapse when a producers' group asserts rights. The fight is winnable, but not free.
The litigation may still continue on narrower grounds. Transfer is off the table; other restrictions or damages can remain in play.
