My domain investing year so far – DNW Podcast #602

A dealer's mid-year scorecard, read aloud for the people who price against it.

Two-thirds of a record year is in the books, and the host is putting his own numbers on the record. The headline total matters less than the shape beneath it: what sold, at what price, and how long the inventory sat before moving.

Technology is the stated wildcard. When discovery tools and buyer behavior change that fast, the value of a parked portfolio changes with them — which is the part a seller should actually be pricing against.

A domain investor's own books, shared mid-year, are as close to real transaction data as this industry publishes. Buyers get a trend line; sellers get a benchmark. Both should listen for the same thing: what the market is paying for now, not what it paid last year.
