Meta applies for .SuperIntelligence, 17 other top level domains

ICANN has published Meta's applications for 18 top-level domains, including .SuperIntelligence and .agent. The list shows how large technology companies are using the current application round to secure brand strings and shape AI-related namespaces.

Meta's applications cover two groups: brand names such as .facebook, .instagram, .whatsapp and .messenger, and AI-related strings such as .superintelligence, .agent, .metaai and .llama. The mix points to a portfolio strategy that is both defensive and forward-looking.

The .superintelligence application was filed before the term entered recent political discourse. Meta applied for it as an open domain, so third parties would be able to register names under it. The string is long, and shorter alternatives such as .si already exist, but the application gives Meta control of the namespace.

Radix also applied for .superintelligence, but only as a replacement string. Under ICANN's process, a replacement string is considered only if the primary application fails. Because Meta's application is primary, Radix's application is void. That removes one potential conflict for the string.

.agent is a different case. Meta, Google and OpenAI all applied for the same string, so it will go through ICANN's contention resolution. The outcome will determine which company controls a generic AI-related namespace, and it may take time to resolve.

For domain holders, the practical points are straightforward. Open strings from large applicants will create new registration opportunities, but pricing, launch timing and use restrictions are not yet known. Contested strings will take longer to resolve, and the outcome will decide who controls the namespace.
