Identity Digital applies for whopping 216 top level domain names

Identity Digital has applied for 216 new top-level domains in the 2026 round, a scale that will shape the next generation of the namespace and the choices available to registrants.

The application covers 13 categories, including AI, Web3 and Crypto, Finance, and Health & Wellness. It also includes contested strings such as .bit, .crypto, and .agent, along with shortened hedges like .agnt and .agt.

The company already operates the largest portfolio of top-level domains. Its biggest existing strings — .Live, .digital, .life, and .world — each have more than 400,000 domains in zone. The new list mixes broad generics like .good, .view, and .hub with narrow industry strings like .bakery, .glasses, and .tea.

For domain holders, the immediate effect is not a new place to register names but a longer list of possibilities. Value will depend on which strings survive evaluation, how contention is resolved, and whether registrars actually carry the new extensions.

Identity Digital is also the backend registry services provider for other applicants. That puts it in competition with some of its own clients in certain contention sets. The company says its owned-and-operated and RSP teams are separate; how that separation holds in practice is still unknown.

The company has not applied for replacement strings on most of its applications, which suggests it intends to pursue its primary choices. Applications are not delegations, and the ICANN process will determine which of these 216 strings ever reach the market.

The portfolio model means the company can absorb weak performers as long as some strings succeed. Holders of names in new niche extensions should expect uneven outcomes, with a few categories drawing real demand and many others remaining quiet.
