ICANN names seven members of blockchain integration study group
ICANN has put a technical question on a clock: can blockchain naming connect to DNS before the next TLD window closes?
The seven-member Technical Study Group is not a committee for its own sake. It must produce determinations before the next new TLD application window slams shut, which makes its work a policy gate, not a research memo.
Blockchain naming systems are the uninvited relative claiming kinship with DNS. The group's real task is deciding whether those systems interoperate with the authoritative namespace, run parallel to it, or stay outside it entirely.
Announcing members is the easy part. The hard part is mapping decentralized names onto root servers, registries, and registrars without breaking the assumptions that keep the domain system coherent.
For buyers and sellers, the signal is practical: whatever this group decides will shape the rules of the coming application round. The study is a prelude to regulation, not academic trivia.
