I Prefer Escalating LTO vs. Rentals

Atom's rental feature is a new payment wrapper around the same old question: who carries the risk until the sale closes?

Atom.com now lets sellers list a domain as a rental, trading a lower upfront cost for recurring payments. The author keeps the feature off.

The distinction matters: a rental is an expense with no path to ownership. An escalating LTO builds equity toward acquisition and filters out tire-kickers.

For a seller, monthly rental income looks passive, but it introduces tenant-like obligations, payment churn, and eventual removal headaches. It can shadow a genuine outright buyer.

Escalating LTO keeps the buyer moving toward the endpoint. Each payment raises the ultimate price, making delay expensive and commitment concrete.

The lesson for owners: terms are leverage. Rentals broaden access but dilute the endgame; LTO preserves both cash flow and conversion.
