Germany’s .de domain faces outage
Germany's .de namespace just got a live demonstration of what DNSSEC actually costs.
DENIC, the registry behind .de, suffered an outage this evening that took down every DNSSEC-signed domain in the namespace.
The failure is precise: unsigned domains may keep resolving, while signed domains risk failing validation and vanishing for resolvers that enforce the chain of trust.
For domain owners, this is the dry-run of a dependency most never see. DNSSEC is security infrastructure, but in an outage it becomes an availability switch controlled by the registry.
Anyone running a business on a signed .de domain should be checking resolvers and monitoring status now, not after the next incident.
