German translation company tries reverse domain name hijacking

A translation company tried to use a trademark claim to seize a domain it couldn't buy, and the panelist noticed the lie.

24translate GmbH went to Nominet's DRS looking for a domain that includes its mark. To establish rights, it told the panelist it had registered a similar name years earlier.

The record did not support that statement. The panelist called it false, and then went one step further: this wasn't a close call, it was an attempted reverse domain name hijacking.

A bad-faith finding at Nominet does more than lose the case. It officially brands the complainant as an abusive filer and makes its next complaint far harder to take seriously.

The lesson for domain owners is simple: a strong defense isn't just about proving your registration is legitimate. Sometimes the decision is about whether the other side deserves to be in the room at all.
