End user sales: here comes .si

A political statement about renaming AI has pushed .si domain sales up, but end-user buying so far is defensive. The pattern shows how external events can move domain values without creating new primary use.

The trigger was a U.S. political statement that AI would be referred to as SI. Investors moved into .si domains ahead of end users. This is a familiar mechanism: a naming signal creates speculative demand for the matching string.

The end-user sales reported are mostly companies that already operate on .ai and bought .si to redirect. That means they are protecting the alternative spelling, not building on .si. The price levels for some of these names show companies are willing to pay thousands to keep a name out of others' hands.

For domain holders, the distinction matters. A defensive buyer pays to remove risk, not to build a business. That demand can support prices while the naming question is live. If the political signal fades, so may the urgency.

The .si registry is Slovenia's country-code TLD. It has a settled identity tied to Slovenia. The new interest is not about Slovenia; it is about the letters. That creates a mismatch between the asset's underlying market and the current price driver.

What is unknown is whether any company will launch primary operations on .si. If none do, the investor inventory bought on the SI narrative may have limited exit liquidity. Holders should watch whether end-user purchases shift from redirects to primary use.
