.Com domain registrar rankings – GoDaddy, Namecheap, Squarespace and more
The .com portfolio is a scoreboard, and ICANN just posted the quarterly box scores.
ICANN published Verisign's registrar-by-registrar data for the .com namespace, and the numbers are always three months old. The lag doesn't matter — the direction of the market is still legible.
-
GoDaddy, Namecheap, Squarespace and the rest are not being ranked for prestige. Registrar share in .com is the purest available proxy for who owns the default domain conversation.
-
The fastest-shrinking list is the one to study. Registrars lose .com accounts for a reason: pricing shifts, service failures, or quiet migrations to platforms that make renewal a reflex.
-
Read the data as churn, not just share. A registrar can grow by acquiring a book of business or by actually earning new customers. ICANN's report doesn't distinguish, so neither should you.
-
The real signal is which registrars are holding their ground in the most commoditized namespace on the internet. That's where the practical leverage sits.
